Agadir: Inzegan Suburb

INEZGANE, on the north bank of the Oued Souss, is almost a suburb of Agadir, just 13km distant. The two could hardly be more different, though, for Inezgane is wholly Moroccan, and is a major transport hub for the region – much more so than Agadir – with buses and grands taxis going to most southern destinations. It’s connected with Agadir by local bus #25 and #28 (very frequent) and by frequent grands taxis (4dh a place, arriving/leaving Agadir at Place Salam). Each of these, along with intercity buses, have their own section of the gare routière, which is off Avenue Mokhtar Soussi, a wide street with arcades on both sides, running from the central Place al Massira to the main Agadir road. Across Avenue Mokhtar Soussi, through the arcades, is a wonderful city market, full of fruit, veg, spices, knick-knacks and traditional cosmetics, and a hundred times more authentic than anything you’ll find in Agadir. From Place al Massira, the road makes a ninety-degree turn, and crosses Boulevard Mohammed V, Inezgane’s main street, where you’ll find the post office and most of the shops. Useful bus and grand taxi departures from Inezgane include Taroudannt, Essaouira and Marrakech.
